Various Stylized Anatomy Paintovers for League of Legends

Sharing a small collection of some of the various paintovers I did while on League to push stylization and dynamic feels of Splash Art and Concepts. I worked with some of the absolute best artists on the planet in my time there, and the culture of feedback helped to leverage everyone's strengths communally - it was an amazing experience shared with amazing people. I'll try to find more of this kind of stuff, as this is a small portion of this segment of work I did while on LoL.

PO for Varus's splash update. I was a massive fan of Varus AND of the artist working on this - Jess Oyhenart - so it was great fun to contribute a small bit to what turned out to be an iconic piece.

PO helping the Splash Artist understand the armor and mechanical form of Dreadnova Darius. LOVED working on this skin line, and with the artist on this ;)

Killer splash of Dragon Slayer Xin that just needed a liiiiiittle push in anatomy dynamics to feel more 'in motion'

Demacia Vice! This skin line was my baby, and was honored with the killer work the team did to bring the neon drenched streets of Demacia to life. For this one I was looking to push silhouette and attitude.

More DV! Loved the way this one was forming in the process, but wanted to reinforce the drama of the perspective and push the sleek body of Detective "Lucian Phoenix"

Just some notes for the artist here that was a "take what you can use" sort of PO, where I would suggest body language or other adjustments to capture more story or drama.

Big boi Sett was being concepted and I was asked to take a look at the pose and push anatomy a bit. Gem Lim Liu was the concept artist on him, and she's a dream to work with. She took this much further into awesome than I could ;)

More Sett - this time with more arm. I sometimes break out different areas of the body to call out specific shape or topology in more detail.

Warwick! This was another PO to push dynamic perspective and drama.

Here is a PO for Resistance Illaoi - a skin I concepted. This was a special skin for us, as we pushed to have the community VOTE on which skin we should make for her next, complete with a mini site and everything. For this PO, I wanted to convey ab topo

PO for the model of Lunar Guardian Nasus, a skin I concepted. I was conveying the anatomy to be pushed along his abdomen, pectoral, and through his shoulders and arms to feel more tight and overlapping.

These were done way back for the Mordekaiser update - we were trying to understand his base anatomy, and the artist working on him had requested a pass to try and understand the movement of muscle mass in this pose.

Further breaking down the anatomy in motion, finding the furthest extremity of that motion that feels right in static form.

PO for my boy Pantheon. Love this character and Justin Albers did a phenomenal job landing his updated concept.

Offered this PO to the Splash team to PUUUUSH ever so slightly the arm forward to try and really sell the weight of him stomping down with that right arm

quick Nidalee PO for this splash. At this stage it was feeling stiff and all the armor a bit too thin, so I wanted to callout the focus on how the anatomy breaks down and the turned around shape of the armoring

Done as a part of helping the Champs team land Swain's update, focusing on his idle pose, which is critically important in League.

More Swain! There was a period where I was pushing for him to have a more military oriented clean cut hair style ;)

This was done as a pass for Swain's update. This update went through a few artist's hands, and I was asked to help push base pose.

This was done as a part of a talk I did about stylized anatomy for our Concept and Splash disciplines at Riot. I wanted to illustrate the flow of kinetic silhouette and why it's appealing (and fun to draw/paint)
